(Fairbanks) - House Speaker Mike Chenault, R-Nikiski, released the following statement today regarding the enactment of House Bill 369. The governor signed the bill into law at a ceremony in Fairbanks this afternoon. HB 369 creates the Joint In-state Gasline Development Team within the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation to bring a development plan and financing options forward next summer, with the goal of first gas flowing in 2015.
It's a good day for Alaska; a good step forward. HB 369 gives us the opportunity to create jobs and energy security throughout the Railbelt and, in time, other regions of the state.
~ Rep. Mike Chenault
"It's a good day for Alaska; a good step forward. HB 369 gives us the opportunity to create jobs and energy security throughout the Railbelt and, in time, other regions of the state.
"With Dan Fauske as the head of JIGDT, we think we put together a solid organization with all the key components to move an in-state gasline forward.
"I'm thankful to the members of the legislature for passing this bill, and thankful to the governor for signing it, allowing the work to begin quickly.
"HB 369 is a product of hard work done in both houses. Alaskans have told us that in-state use of our natural gas resources is their number one priority. We listened and came up with a new vehicle, taking the politics out of the process, to help focus all of our efforts on bringing a gasline to Alaskans."
