HJR 16 Passes House Floor, Moves to Senate
|Resolution supports expansion of business opportunities for disabled veterans|
Posted: February 17, 2010
(Juneau) - The Alaska State House unanimously passed HJR 16 this morning, standing with other states in supporting disabled veterans in building new businesses.
The federal government with this kind of support will ensure full implementation of these federal laws and directives.
The Veterans Benefits Act of 2003 signed into law offered a 3% federal procurement rate to assist disabled veterans in starting new businesses. HJR 16 sponsor Rep. Carl Gatto, R-Palmer, says that the rate helps assist veterans who face challenges in life and also face additional business start-up challenges. However, a number of federal agencies in Alaska have not complied with the mandate, leading Gatto to sponsor the resolution.
