A Summary of News & Events from Alaska's State House for Wednesday - 02/22/12:
H Floor Session: The House unanimously passed HB 298, Exemptions from Mining Tax. There were 29 bills and resolutions introduced yesterday, here is the full list.
H Education: HB 256, Repeal State Intervention in Schools, was heard and held. The committee heard a presentation from the Aleutians East Borough School District Superintendent.
H FIN Subcmtee - Health & Soc. Svcs.: The committee reviewed Alaska Pioneer Homes and the Department of Support Services.
H FIN Subcmtee - Administration: The committee discussed the Alaska Public Offices Commission.
Joint Resources: The committee met jointly with Senate Resources to hear a presentation on the Annual Overview on Mining in Alaska.
H Resources: Confirmation hearings were held for the Board of Game, Big Game Commercial Services Board and the Fisherman's Fund Advisory and Appeals Council.
H Judiciary: HB 293, Rights of Crime Victims/Continuances, passed out of committee while HB 221, Public Defender Appointment Procedures, and HB 262, Passenger Security: Transportation Facility, were heard and held.
H Finance: HB 56, Include Arson in Crimes of Conspiracy, HB 216, Regulations: Informative Summary/Bills, HB 264, Muni Property Tax Deferral: Subdivisions, and HB 279, Extending Certain Boards and Commissions moved from committee.
H Labor & Commerce: HB 301, Sunset of Boating Regulation, and HB 252, Income Tax Exemption, moved out of committee while HB 300, Geographic Cola for Justices & Judges, was heard and held.
H FIN Subcmtee - Transportation: The committee discussed highways & aviation.
H FIN Subcmtee - Community & Economic Development: The committee reviewed corporations, business and professional licensing.
