(Juneau) - Today leaders of the Alaska Federation of Natives threw their support behind the House Special Committee on Energy's 2010 Omnibus Energy Legislation. AFN President Julie Kitka and other AFN leaders testified to the committee this afternoon to express the organization's support for the comprehensive energy bill.

"Rural Alaska is ready and waiting for inclusive energy legislation that can make rural communities remain sustainable," said energy co-chair Bryce Edgmon, D-Dillingham. "The committee really appreciates the insight and support that AFN brought to the meeting today."

"Energy is on the minds of all Alaskans right now," said committee co-chair Charisse Millett, R-Anchorage. "Today's testimony from AFN leaders is similar to what we heard in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Nome and Kotzebue. Alaskans expect a wide ranging energy bill on the books this year."

House Bill 305 sweeps together nine energy related bills introduced last year. The bills came from both the house and senate and cover alternative energy, the creation of a new state department of energy, energy technology and design standards for rural schools.
