(Haines) - House Finance Committee Vice-Chair Bill Thomas, R-Haines, today announced that fellow House Majority Caucus members have chosen to elevate him to Finance Committee Co-Chair for the 27th Alaska Legislature, which will convene in Juneau this coming January.

"We've come together," Thomas said. "I'm a proud member of the Bush Caucus, and I'm also proud and honored to be chosen as Operating Budget Co-Chair by my fellow caucus members. My staff and I are ready to go."

Thomas will coordinate agency budget subcommittees and help review, amend and carry the FY 2012 and FY 2013 State Operating Budget bills in the State House. He assumes the gavel from Anchorage Republican Mike Hawker.

Thomas represents House District 5, which encompasses the communities of Haines, Klukwan, Skagway, Cordova, Gustavus, Angoon, Hoonah, Kake, Tenakee Springs, Klawock, Craig, Hydaburg, Metlakatla Yakutat, Naukati Bay, Tatitlek, and Excursion Inlet.
