House Passes Bill Setting State Flag Handling Procedures
| Johnson's HB 98 Sets Standards for Display, Folding and Retirement |
Posted: February 25, 2011 (Juneau) - The Alaska State House of Representatives today unanimously passed a bill setting procedures for the display, handling and retirement of the state flag. House Rules Chair Craig Johnson, R-Anchorage, sponsored the bill, House Bill 98, and says it's designed to ensure consistent, respectful and appropriate procedures for handling our state flags.
"It's past time to codify in statute a uniform and respectful way to display, fold and retire our state's flag," Johnson said. "I'm thankful to the cadets at Dimond High School's JROTC. They've done a wonderful job in taking up the cause and have helped us set the standards that the House passed today. It's a small bill, relatively, but it can mean so much to veterans, servicemen and -women and all proud Alaskans.
