Olson's Workers' Comp Update Signed Into Law

(Soldotna) - Alaska House Labor & Commerce Committee Chair Kurt Olson released the following statement today after Governor Sean Parnell signed House Bill 13 into law.

The bill signed by Governor Parnell today will help Alaska businesses large and small and renew our commitment to providing safe and healthy communities and protecting Alaska workers.

Statement:

"HB 13 replaces the outdated 2004 Workers' Compensation fee schedule extension held in place by emergency regulation after a new plan wasn't adopted by the 26th Alaska Legislature.

"The bill proposes establishing a full fee schedule again, including the codes adopted since 2004. There are whole new categories that aren't covered in Alaska (II and III) following the American Medical Association and Health Care Procedure Coding System 2004 changes.

"Our current schedule is missing thousands of medical service codes. A fee schedule that includes these codes will lower Alaska Workers' Compensation rates. The bill signed by Governor Parnell today will help Alaska businesses large and small and renew our commitment to providing safe and healthy communities and protecting Alaska workers."
