(Juneau) - The Alaska State House today unanimously approved House Bill 226, renaming certain sections of roads in the Palmer and Wasilla as the Mat-Su Veterans’ Highway. The bill was sponsored by Representative Wes Keller, R-Wasilla.

“HB 226 has been one of those pieces of legislation that is such an honor to work on,” Keller said. “It’s a chance for us to take a little piece of the Mat-Su and say thank you to the men and women who have, and are still, serving our country.”

HB 226 would rename parts of Bogard, Seldon and East Colony Schools Roads to Mat-Su Veterans’ Highway. “It won’t actually change the names of the roads, but will make it a common corridor,” Keller said. “I believe the new name will eventually catch on and become the one used for directions.”

HB 226 now heads to the Senate for consideration.
