Governor Signs Bill Bringing Clarity to State Regulations

(Wrangell) - Governor Sean Parnell today signed into law a bill sponsored by House Majority Whip Peggy Wilson that will create clarity for Alaskans in understanding and complying with state regulations.

House Bill 216 will increase understanding of state regulations by the public and legislators in two ways; it will ensure state regulations are completed and adopted in a timely manner and that all new regulations and changes to current regulations are accompanied by brief descriptive summaries in plain English.

"Passage of this legislation will encourage greater public participation in the regulation review process," Wilson, R-Wrangell, said. "It will be so much easier for people to understand the intent of new regulations or changes to existing ones. It will also help speed up the implementation of legislation that has passed and been signed into law."

HB 216 will take effect July 1, 2012.
