House Passes CDVSA Extension BillRep. Fairclough's HB 120 Extends Council on
Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault through 2014 |
(Juneau) - The Alaska House of Representatives has unanimously passed HB 120, a bill that extends the sunset date of the Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (CDVSA) through 2014. Failure to pass HB 120 would have started a winding down of CDVSA's operations beginning March 1 of this year and its cessation June 30, 2007.
"The CDVSA is vital to a coordinated statewide response to domestic violence and sexual assault and a reduction of violence effecting Alaskan women, children and men," Fairclough said.
Housed in the Alaska Department of Public Safety, the CDVSA was established in 1981, and for the last 27 years has provided funding for programs ranging from prison-based batterers' programs, community-based batterers' programs and victim's services programs. The Council works in coordination with the Departments of Public Safety, Law, Education and Early Development, Health and Social Services, and the Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
HB 120 has been referred to the Senate for its consideration. |
