“Relating to grants to nonprofit regional corporations, and, in certain situations, to municipalities with populations of less than 10,000, for village public safety officers in rural areas; defining rural area for the purpose of the village public safety officer program; and authorizing municipalities to accept grants under, and contract with respect to, the village public safety officer program.”

Section 1: Adds boroughs as entities that may administer the VPSO Program.

Section 2: Adds that boroughs with populations of under 10,000 may receive Department of Public Safety grants and administer the Program. Adds boroughs as entities that the Commissioners of Public Safety and Corrections shall jointly execute an agreement with when providing grants to the borough. Adds that for areas within a borough that exercises areawide law enforcement power, only the borough may receive grants.

Section 3: Adds that the Commissioner of Public Safety may adopt regulations pertaining to boroughs' participation in the VPSO Program.

Section 4: Adds that in addition to having the option to appoint Regional Public Safety Officers in rural areas of the state, the Commissioner of Public Safety may appoint them to boroughs that do not exercise areawide law enforcement powers and that have populations of under 10,000.
