HB 86 extends the termination date of the Board of Veterinary Examiners (BVE). Currently the board will sunset on June 30, 2009. HB 86 extends this date by eight years, to June 30, 2017.

It is the opinion of the auditor that "BVE has demonstrated an ability to conduct its affairs in an efficient manner. The board continues to propose changes to regulations to improve the effectiveness of the board and ensure that veterinarians and veterinarian technicians licensed in the State of Alaska are competent and capable of maintaining the integrity of the profession."

I encourage all members to review the Legislative Audit report.

Through the efforts of the BVE our livestock and pets are afforded quality health care by competent and capable veterinarians and veterinarian technicians.
